Titan XC Update - Oct 6, 2008

OREM INVITATIONAL
The Titans showed continued improvement at this huge meet held at the UVU campus in Orem. Most who ran had their fastest 5000 meter times of the year even though the race was run in the rain over a very sloppy course. Over 35 schools from Utah and Wyoming competed.
The Girls Varsity placed 10th overall and 7th among 5A schools. This was even though two of the top seven were out with illnesses. Top finishes by the Lady Titans came from:
25th- Hannah Williams, 20:12; 36th - McKayla Williams, 20:44; 71st- Abby Rich, 21:49; 93rd- Kiana Tebbs, 22:14; 95th- Taylee Hamblin, 22:16; 168th- Sasha Russell, 24:50. Hannah and McKayla moved up over 40 places over the last half of the race. Sasha made her first Varsity race a very good one. It was a P.R. by nearly two minutes.
Turning in great races for the J.V. were Lindsey McFarland, 25:00; Tiffany Reed, 26:40; and Kylin Long, 29:50. This was a great first race by Lindsey. And she did it without kicking a soccer ball around the course!!!
The Boys Varsity also ran a great race placing 12th overall and they were also 7th among 5A schools. To show the improvement over last year, the combined time of the five scoring runners this year was eight minutes faster than our top five last year. The varsity was lead by Austin Costley’s 20th place finish in 17:11. He passed more than 20 runners over the last mile. The other varsity runners were: 68th- Jake Rossmango, 17:51; 69th- Preston Williams, 17:51; 100th- Tyrell Pearce, 18:17; 115th- Brandon Yardley, 18:28; 124th- Dallin Riggs, 18:33; 165th- Kyle Kelly, 19:13. Over 210 ran the varsity boys race.
Leading the J.V. to a 17th place finish were: Willis Ellsworth, 19:57; Alex Garrett, 20:24; Nick Hilton, 20:32; Christian Smith, 20:33; Steven Wilcox, 20:47; Clayton Bergloff, 22:00; Dylan Rossmango, 23:14; and Tyler Kutterer, 23:17.

ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
Chosen as Athletes of the Week were Kiana Tebbs, who is now rounding into shape at just the right time, Dallin Riggs, whose addition to the TEAM has made our squad much deeper, and Cody Trease, who just shows up to every workout and meet giving 100%, making everyone on the TEAM better. A coach can’t ask for more.

CONGRATS HALEY
Congratulations to Haley Busby for representing Syracuse City (and Syracuse Cross Country) at the Utah Miss Outstanding Teen pageant. The fact that she didn’t win proves that it was fixed!!!

OPEN REGION MEET @ FREMONT
We will run the meet at Fremont Wednesday. We will use it as a tuneup for Region, working on the last two miles. You will be excused Wednesday at 1:15 and the bus will leave at 1:30. The Girls will run at 3:45 and the Boys at 4:15.

SEASON WINDING DOWN
Don’t neglect the “little things”. Take extra care in hydration, nutrition, sleep, injury prevention, etc. With Region just a week away, we don’t want to do anything that will prevent us from performing at full strength.

UPCOMING SCHEDULE
Oct 8- Open Region meet @ Fremont High
Oct 15- REGION CHAMPIONSHIPS @ Layton City Park
Oct 22- STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS @ Sugarhouse Park
