Titan XC Update - Oct 27, 2008

TITANS 6TH / 7TH AT STATE!!
The Titans capped off a great year with the Boys finishing 6th in State and the Girls 7th. Except for golf, these are the highest State finishes at Syracuse. Very impressive results from some great student/athletes.
State was run over the hilly 3.0 mile course at Sugarhouse Park in SLC. Hannah Williams completed a perfect season- our #1 finisher in every race- by placing 12th in 19:21. She just missed making the All-State Team. McKayla Williams was right behind placing 22nd in 19:42. Mikelann Wilcox was one of the top freshman finishers in the race placing 46th in 20:21. Abby Rich battled injuries all season but still came through to run 20:33 to place 53rd. Kiana Tebbs’ 21:14 was good enough to place 70th, while Taylee Hamblin capped of a great first year by placing 79th in 21:32. Aubrey Eddy’s 23:15 was good enough for 104th. Aubrey’s value to the TEAM should not be measured in the points she scored. Having her lead by example was far more important to our success. The combined times of our top five was 2:40 faster than last year at State. Hannah and McKayla made the State All-Time list for the course and Mikelann just missed it.
Austin Costley also made it a perfect season as he was again our top finisher. He placed 22nd overall while running 16:28. Jake Rossmango’s 16:50 was good enough for 38th. Preston Williams capped off a great sophomore year finishing 53rd in 17:05. Phillip Helms wound up his senior year by placing 62nd in 17:13. Freshman Brandon Yardley had a great race placing 67th in 17:16. He was the 4th freshman finisher in the race. Dallin Riggs battled a cold and still placed 89th while running 17:44. Tyrell Pearce finished 98th even though he was running on a sprained ankle. His time was 17:54. Austin and Jake made the State All-Time list for the course.
This was a great TEAM effort by the Titans. And that means all 35 members, not just the 14 who ran.

NOW WHAT
Those needing a little time to get some injuries heeled up should do so now. If healthy, keep running. STORY: As a sophomore, Jared was about the #12-15 runner at Davis. He wanted to be better. As a junior, he was 3rd in State in XC. He wanted to be better. As a senior, he was the 5A XC MVP, national Foot Locker finalist, won three firsts at State in Track, and ran the fastest 5000 for any high school runner in Utah history. How did he do it? He committed himself to become the best he could possibly become even though he didn’t know where that might lead.
Continued improvement as an individual and TEAM should be the goal of everyone. Let’s start working now towards bringing home some hardware from the 2009 State Championships.
