XC Update - August 4

ERIC CHILD 5k FUN RUN
Great job by several Titans at this 5k fund raiser for Eric Child. Jake Rossmango ran away from the field and was the overall winner. The next three spots were taken by members of the TEAM. Preston Williams, Kyle Kelly and Phillip Helm were the next three finishers. Mikelann Wilcox was the first finisher for the women. She was closely followed by Aubrey Eddy, Lindsey McFarland, Mckenna Peterson and Erika Hansen. Other boys running well were Jaxon Hansen, Brandon Yardley, Cody Trease, and Dylan Rossmango. Rob Wilcox, Bob Williams, John Rossmango and the Old Man also ran with the first three representing Titan Cross Country very well. TIMES: I didn’t get your times. Please send them to me with your mileage updates.

It was great seeing about 45 Titan Football players and coaches participate in the run, supporting a worthy cause. Tanner Burton and Rick Reardon were the first football players to finish and ran very respectable times, somewhere in the 21-22 minute range. That is the image that more accurately reflects Syracuse Football, Syracuse athletics, and Syracuse High in general instead of what has been gracing the airwaves and newspapers recently. The Syracuse High community has taken some shots- maybe this will help give a more accurate picture of what our image should be.

WORKOUTS THIS WEEK
For those not going to the Uintah’s for the High Altitude Camp, push yourself to get in some quality miles on your own. This should be the best week for everyone, with your highest mileage of the summer, not just those heading to the mountains. Try to follow the workouts as closely as possible.

SEASON IS GETTING CLOSE
August 16th is the Dart Challenge 5k. This is a road race open to everyone- it’s not a "high school" race. It will give us a good chance to see where we are at. If you want a t-shirt, you can register online at: www.runnercard.com. If you don’t want a shirt, I will pay your entry fee. Parents, siblings, everyone can run this race.

August 30th is the first "real" competition for the TEAM. We will go to the Grass Relays in American Fork. Only four weeks to get ready to see how we stack up against the top programs in the state.

GET PSYCHED
While most think the Olympics begin 08/08/08, the first week is just to get you warmed up for Track and Field (or "Athletics" as the rest of the world appropriately calls the sport). Track and Field begins August 15th. Here are some good sites to help you get fired up for the Games:
