XC Update - July 28, 2008

DESERET NEWS 10K
Great job by those who ran the Deseret News 10k on the 24th. It was a fun race with some great efforts. Jake Rossmango was our top finisher running 39:56, an average of about 6:25 / mile pace. Kyle Kelly was right behind finishing in 40:33. Clayton Bergloff ran 44:55. Each of his 5k’s were PR’s for him. Freshmen Grant Patterson (51:01) and Dylan Rossmango (52:09) also had great races in their 10k debuts. For the girls, Mikelann Wilcox ran 47:50 to finish first for us. Lindsey McFarland (53:05) and Aubrey Eddy (55:22) also ran very well. The Old Man, Rob Wilcox, and the Much Older Man, myself, also reached the finish line before the morticians caught up with us. Rob ran 47:05 and I ran 45:11. It’s a good thing it wasn’t a 10,005 meter race- I may not have made it to the finish line.

WORKOUTS THIS WEEK
Monday- Trails. Meet at the school at 6:30 am or at Fernwood Campground at 7:00 am.
Tuesday- Your workout log did not have a site. I am changing the workout and we will meet at Syracuse High at 7:00 am.
Thursday- Meet at Jensen Park at 7:00 am.

RACE THIS WEEK
I hope we can get as many of you as possible to run the fun run Saturday. It is a fund raiser for Eric Child, who has Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia. It will start at 8:00 am at 2841 west, 1300 north in Clinton. The cost is $10. I will pay for anyone who needs the help.

HIGH ALTITUDE CAMP
All of those going to the High Altitude Camp in the Uintah’s need to have their money, medical waiver and either A or B form turned in by Tuesday, July 29th. If something has come up and you can’t go, let me know IMMEDIATELY. We will be buying supplies the latter part of the week and need to have an exact number. Also, we need rides. If your parents can drive up or bring a group back, please let me know. We will pay for their gas.

RECRUIT
We need more bodies. Encourage your friends to come out and give XC a try.

SUMMER POINT PROGRESS
As you know (or should know), I have been keeping track of mileage, workout attendance, workout logs submitted, races run, etc. Leading in the point race so far this summer are:
311 - Kyle Kelly
301 - Jake Rossmango
221 - Grant Patterson
212 - Aubrey Eddy
206- Austin Costley
202 - Tyrell Pearce
201 - Preston Williams
193 - Hilary Peterson
193 - Mikelann Wilcox
Jake is leading the mileage race with 331 so far. Kyle is right behind with 313 for the summer.
Many of you could climb up the list if you would update your mileage, etc.. The top finisher will get a free pair of running shoes. Those finishing high at the end of the summer training period will also be rewarded.

"I want this inner feeling to be known by the younger athletes, so they understand what that love of running is all about, I want to pass on my love and feeling for running… I would like younger runners to understand earlier than I did, that winning a gold medal is not always the difference between success and failure. If you do anything in life to the top most of your ability you are always a winner whether you come first in the race of life or not. Self achievement is the key to happiness and well being. It is a key which has unlocked my life and I would like it to do the same for others." -Wilson Kipketer
