CONGRATULATIONS!!!Haley Busby was selected (I think unanimously) as Miss Outstanding Teen Syracuse tonight. It was obvious to everyone in attendance (well, at least me) that she was head and shoulders above the rest. Great on the piano, the interview, with the volleyball, and evening gown. Way to go!!
WORKOUTS- Good job on the workouts this last week. Our numbers on Thursdays have not been as high as on Mondays. Let’s make a concerted effort to get to every workout. The bike ride on Tuesday and Ben Lomond Peak 16-miler on Saturday added some variety. Great job by Kyle Kelly and Jake and Dylan Rossmango who battled snow fields, falling rocks, etc., and accompanied the old coach to Ben Lomond Peak. We may do it again this summer when more of the snow has melted.

Titan XC Update – June 8, 2008
GREAT FIRST WEEK
Man, what a difference a year makes. We had 28 on the trails Monday, 31 at Fisher Park Thursday. We seldom had more than 5 of 6 for any workouts last summer. Let’s not only keep the numbers up, let’s keep them growing. If you have been a little scared or hesitant to show up- don’t be. We have runners of all abilities and all levels. You won’t be left behind.
TRAINING LOGS/MILEAGE
Remember to send me your Training Logs and Mileage each week (preferably each Sunday). As the summer goes on, this can help me chart your progress and individualize your workouts. Try to increase your total mileage each week. Depending on your current fitness level, you should be somewhere between 20 to 35 miles. If you are consistent and run daily, this isn’t hard to accomplish. Summer mileage is the key to fall success.
UPCOMING WORKOUTS
Monday we will run the trails again. Either meet at the high school at 6:30 am or at Fernwood Campground at 7:00 am. Thursday we will meet at Jensen Park at 7:00 am.
ROAD RACES
Reminder of the Gerald Anderson 5k June 14th in Morgan. If you haven’t registered, you still can at Striders in Layton or at the race. I have registration forms for the Clearfield Freedom Run that will be held July 4th. Pick one up at the workouts if you are interested.
WEB SITES
I have posted the Cross Country workouts, schedule, and some pictures on the following web site: www.titanxc08.blogspot.com. Try www.sporting-heroes.net/ A good site to follow collegiate track and cross country is: www.trackshark.com.
THIS WEEKEND
The Prefontaine Classic will be televised Sunday at 2:00 pm on channel 5. Luke Puskedra will be running in the meet attempting to break the national high school two-mile record. Also, at the Bislett Games today, the World Record for the Women’s 5000 was broken today. Ethiopia’s Tirunesh Dibaba ran 14:11.15. That’s a mile pace of about 4:35!!! Not bad.
QUOTE OF THE WEEK"It is one of the strange ironies of this strange life that those who work the hardest, who subject themselves to the strictest discipline, who give up certain pleasurable things in order to achieve a goal, are the happiest. When you see 20 or 30 runners line up for a distance race in some meet, don't pity them, don't feel sorry for them. Better envy them instead." Brutus Hamilton
